Being in between two careers feels weird
SEO is like that favourite chocolate that I keep coming back to. I have an acquired taste for it, and it satisfies my cravings. And now I feel like adding something new to the mix.
I understood that just doing SEO won’t be enough. I need to collaborate with more people to shape the products people are using. And since I have a thing for software, I soon came across Product-Led Growth (PLG).
For context, PLG is a go-to-market strategy where companies use the product as a way to acquire, activate, retain, and expand customers. Basically, the product is at the centre of everything.
So now I can ensure I am helping build products people want to try, buy, and love.
Here are some things that helped me in my journey to learn PLG:
- Listening to podcasts in the background when you’re just starting (a tip from my therapist)
- Reading articles, watching talks and webinars, and taking both free and paid courses (for now)
- Talking to people: early-stage founders, Product Managers, product folks, and operators at mid-stage SaaS. This had the biggest impact.
- Signing up for many SaaS products, spotting patterns, and taking notes.
This transition feels a bit uncomfortable. For example, I am figuring out which skills to go deeper on (There’s product management, product marketing, design, and whatnot). All this while keeping up and evolving my skills in SEO.
These kinds of questions give me an existential crisis. I am taking this journey step by step, though.
If you’re on a similar journey, know that you’re not alone. You can talk with people who are already there where you wanna go, and learn from their careers. You got this!
P.S. I also made a YouTube Shorts on the same topic a while ago. I wish I could make more videos lol.
P.P.S. If you’re a SaaS founder who cares about onboarding, activation, or retention, schedule a call with me 🙂
